Sports, Pastimes & Recreation in Phuket – Continued from General Activities

Phuket Sports and Activities Overview – Below is a taste of what's on offer in terms of sports and activities here on the island.
If you know exactly who or what you're looking for, you can go to our activities directory page here.

Cinemas – For the odd rainy day or when you feel like a break, we have 3 Cinemas available, all sumptuously appointed and showing the latest releases.

Cabaret Shows – Staying with seated entertainment, there are 2 Cabaret Shows that should not be missed.

Firstly there is Fantasea, Asia's biggest tourist attraction, elephants on stage and acrobats above your head, most visitors rave about this show and possibly the largest buffet dinner you will ever get.

Next is Simon Cabaret, this is a "ladyboy" show with a difference, up market and elegant and well worth a visit, the ladies love it!

Discos and night clubs – With the exception of Icon Disco in Nai Harn, most of the discotheques and nightclubs are in Patong, although there are a few "Thai" discos in Phuket Town.

Thai Pan, Tiger and Banana are all situated in and around Bangla Road and are popular. After 2am the Safari, on the outskirts of town on the Karon to Patong road, has a good following with the extreme night owls.

Go Karting – Just the thing to blow away the cobwebs from the night before and get your adrenalin pumping is Go Karting, we have two race tracks on Phuket both situated in Kathu. Fancy yourself as a racing driver? This is the place to be and it's probably safer than the journey there.

Golfsee golf.

Mini Golf – There are two mini courses on the island, one at Patong Park and the other at the Dino Park in Karon.

Horse Riding – If you fancy yourself as an equestrian, there's horse riding, and if you'll excuse the pun, there's a brace of riding stables on the island. In the north we have The Phuket Laguna Riding Club and Phuket Riding Club in Rawai in the south. Micky, an ex jockey pal of mine can regularly be seen galloping along Chalong Beach.

Kite boarding – The relatively new and exciting sport of Kite boarding can be experienced in Rawai at the Phuket Kite Centre. It's a cross between surf boarding and parasailing and looks most impressive, but not for my brittle old bones.

Jet Boat Trips – Another real rush, using the word advisedly, is a trip on the Jet Boat. This beastie can turn in its own length, even at speed and while traveling at 40 knots, it's like being on the big dipper with no dips.

Shooting – Is very popular on the island and we have two ranges, and for those who don't like static targets there is also a Paint Ball and a Laser Combat range.

Shopping – for the ladies, seems to be a favorite pastime, and to cater for this addiction Phuket has two major malls. Just outside Phuket Town we have the massive Central Festival and in Patong the brand new Jungcelon.

Snake shows – Are another relatively unique attraction on the island, so if you fancy playing with King Cobras, the snake farm can be found at 82/2 Patak Road, Chalong, Phuket, 83130.

Sports ClubsPhuket Sports & Tennis Cub – This club has a wide variety of pursuits including tennis, fishing, beach volley ball etc. and they also have one of the few genuine Brunswick pool tables to be found on the island. The club is located in a secluded area just south of Chalong.

Thai Boxing – Also known as Muay Thai, is Thailand's national sport. There are numerous training camps here in Phuket and 3 stadiums where you can see Thais and farrangs kicking and punching nine bells out of each other.

Tiger Muai Thai – Chalong, also runs classes on MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and I found it strange that so many women indulged in this seriously physical sport.
