Catamaran Sailing Charter in Phuket Thailand – Made Easy

Sailing in Phuket Thailand – Year round, Phuket is one of the most beautiful sailing areas in the world.

Phuket is Thailand's biggest island and it's surrounded by most of Thailand's smaller islands, most of which are spectacular limestone outcrops.

As such, sailing in Phuket comes with unsurpassed scenery and a myriad of coral reefs which are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, fishing and scuba diving. Most people are familiar with the islands of Koh Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Koh Lanta.

But who knows about Koh Pu, Koh Kradan, Koh Muk, Koh Libong, Coral island, Bamboo island, Koh Yao Yai, Koh Yao Noi and yes, we can go on endlessly.

Catamaran Sailing Charter in Phuket Thailand – When To Come

In the east monsoon season (November–May), there is more sun, gentle breezes and hardly any rain, absolutely perfect for sailing.

The west monsoon season (June–November) has good winds, not too much rain and cheaper prices everywhere because of the low season. And it's great for racing, and for for those who like their Phuket sailing to be fast.

Phuket Sailing Is For Everyone

Sailing around Phuket is for everyone because usually the weather and the sea are calm, and the whole family can enjoy a day or a week or more of sailing in the warm waters visiting island after island.

If you are an experienced sailor and skipper you can rent a private yacht, and bareboat charter yourself around the islands. However, if you you are new to the area and/or are looking for an enjoyable day's sailing, then you can charter a skippered boat from the Andaman Sea Club.

It's run by Chris and Rolien from the Netherlands and they own a 'built–in–Phuket' Firefly catamaran, The Frog, which sails beautifully even in light winds.

This particular boat is their favourite for island hopping, 'join ins' and regattas. Their news letters can be read here.

Chris and Rolien contacted us recently to inform us about the release of their new website, www.thailand–regatta.com, designed to inform sailors worldwide about the prime sailing destination of Thailand. Their press release and links to the new site can be viewed here.

You can either just join–in for a daytrip and visit 2 islands and go snorkeling (for advice, Rolien is an experienced diving instructor and a volunteer for the Phuket Marine Biology center), or you can book a few nights and enjoy smooth fun days of sailing, staying each night on a different island in a resort of your own choice. What better way to discover and explore the area!!

Learning To Sail In Phuket

When you get really enthusiastic and want to learn more, Chris (who has sailed all his life and joined in many regatta's all over the world), can teach you the ins-and-outs of becoming a good sailor, a skipper or even a racer, so you can participate in one of Phuket's famous regatta's.

Phuket Sailing – Regattas

Phuket offers 3 regattas, the famous Kings Cup in early December always includes the birthday of the King on the 5th of December. In 2007 over 130 yachts participated ranging from mega yachts to sport boats and the colorful Firefly sport catamaran class.

The Kings cup is by far the biggest Asian Regatta. During the regatta all the yachts are moored off Kata beach, and the King's Cup gives sailors a chance to catch up with old friends and get to meet new ones.

In February there is the Phang Nga Bay Regatta. It crosses the fantastic scenery of Phang Nga Bay and has 4 evening parties on various islands.

Six Senses Phuket Raceweek is in July. This is especially interesting because of the good winds, low season prices, and offers a fantastic holiday opportunity for sailors who want to escape the southern hemisphere winter. The regatta is a 5 day racing event, ideally combined with a week of cruising and there are opportunities to charter boats for the regatta, including the Frog.

For more information on any aspect of catamaran sailing charter in Phuket Thailand please visit Chris and Rolien's site, the Andaman Sea Club,  you can call them on 085–0690940
